BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party) has achieved the marvelous feat of many star-studded members joining its team. The party recently saw the induction of wrestler Babita Phogat and her father Mahavir Phogat on Monday.

The party has crossed its mark of 2.20 crore members. Many members from opposition parties have also joined the saffron party in the past few days. BJP started its membership drive from July 6 with the target of adding 4 crore new joiners. But looking at the great response, the party has decided to extend its drive up to August 20. Earlier the program was slated to end on August 11.

With the increase in the window frame of the program, the party has also revised its target. Now the party expects to add 5 crore members.

National vice-president of the party, Dushyant Kumar Gautam informed media that as per the Constitution of BJP, they need to increase their membership by 20 percent. He also said that after the membership drive, they will have organizational elections for electing leaders of various units.

According to the top party sources, maximum joiners have been from Uttar Pradesh. Approximately 46 lakh new members have joined the party in one month span from the state. At the last of the member’s chart is Lakshadweep which only saw the addition of 60 new members. It has also been observed that many members have joined through Namo app.

The party analyzed the figures and concluded that since the islands are sparsely populated and carry lower telecom density, it is tough for them to join.

It has been estimated that the program will make BJP the largest political unit in the country. The final figures are expected to be submitted by a panel headed by party’s vice-president and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on August 20.
