Speaking to the reporters at Lok Samvad programme in Patna, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar said that a second term for present president, Pranab Mukherjee will be a good option. However, he also added that it is upto the government to select the prime ministerial candidate with a common opinion.
According to Nitish, Prime Minister represents the entire country and for choosing a candidate too, everyone should come together and announce a candidate who is favourite of all. The ruling party should hold talks with opposition parties to decide onto the best candidate for upcoming president elections.
Reacting to this, Congress Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said that the tenure of Pranab Mukherjee has made him popular through the country. He also mentioned that Congress has a shared history with the president and that makes them take extra pride in supporting his candidature for the post. However, the initiative needs to be taken by the government to announce him as the candidate.
