In his soon to be released book ‘From Gopalganj to Raisina’, the former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav claimed that the incumbent chief minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, wanted to return to the Mahagathbandhan within six months of walking out of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and allying with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), but Lalu denied his return because he had “lost trust in him completely.”

JD(U) secretary-general, however, has denied the Lalu’s claim of Nitish was trying to get back to the RJD. She said that none of the top functionaries would accept that Nitish Kumar ever wanted to go back to RJD.  She said that if there had been any such intentions, a party’s internal discussion must have been made. She affirmed that JD(U)’s rejection of RJD is permanent and that Nitish Kumar would be the last person to make a compromise on corruption.

Lalu Prasad Yadav claimed that Nitish Kumar sent JD(U) vice-president and confidante Prashant Kishor as an emissary to him on five different occasions to convince Lalu to facilitate his entry into the party once again. Lalu said that Kishor in his words meant that if I could assure in writing that Lalu will allow him to return back to the party and extend his support towards him, then Nitish Kumar would pull himself out of the BJP alliance and rejoin the mahagathbandhan.

Lalu Prasad in his retort to the offer said that if he allowed Nitish Kumar to return to the party, the opposition would have had an unexpected reaction. Lalu said, “I was not sure how the people who had voted for the grand alliance in 2015, and other parties that had united against the BJP all over the country must have reacted to if I would have accepted Kishor’s offer.”
