Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) President Sheila Dixit on Friday rejected Aam Aadmi Party proposal for Alliance in Delhi for the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2019. Before taking the final call, Dixit called a party meeting at her residence and discussed the proposal with other party leaders.

As reported by news agency ANI, Dixit on Thursday conveyed the Party’s Central Leadership her willingness to ally with Arvind Kejriwal‘s party in national Capital for the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2019. However, after hours of discussions and exploring possibilities, party top brasses rejected the proposal to forge an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party.

‘Top Leadership of the party had held a discussion over poll tie-up with AAP in the national capital but most of the leaders are not in favour joining hands with the AAP for Lok Sabha Polls’ Dixit said as quoted by ANI.

Congress decision to not forge an alliance with AAP came days after Arvind Kejriwal asserted that We got tired of convincing Congress for Alliance.

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Chief Arvind Kejriwal while speaking in a public rally last month said that there should be “There should be only one candidate against every BJP candidate, votes must not be divided. I am tired of trying to convince Congress for forming an alliance. But they refuse to understand. If today our alliance with Congress is done, BJP will lose all seven seats in Delhi,” Kejriwal had said last month at an event in the national capital.

Reacting on Delhi CM’s claim Congress Delhi Chief Sheila Dixit said, ‘I want to ask Arvind Kejriwal on what basis has he said this? Because he has not talked about it even once’.

Earlier AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal had said that Congress has ‘almost’ declined to go with us in an alliance. Mamata Banerjee earlier this month claimed that Arvind Kejriwal wants to go with Congress in a pre-poll arrangement.

However, with the appointment of Shiela Dixit as DPCC Chief, it was expected that AAP and Congress will forge an alliance in National Capital for Lok Sabha Polls.

The Change of stand-in Delhi Congress assumes significance as the party is gearing up to brighten its fortunes in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, considering that the BJP had bagged all the seven seats at stake in the capital in the last general elections.

The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) had swept the state by winning all seven parliamentary seats with a vote share of 46.40 per cent in 2014 General Elections. The AAP came second with 32.90 per cent votes, pushing the Congress to the third with 15 per cent vote share.
