The no-confidence motion forwarded by the Telugu Desam Party on Wednesday has been admitted by the Lok Sabha Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan.

The speaker has admitted the notice of no-trust motion against the BJP led- NDA government and the discussions for the same are to be held in the Lower House on Friday.

The no-confidence motion was moved by the opposition parties TDP, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party over several issues like mob lynching, grant of special status to Andhra Pradesh, women safety etc.

TDP had earlier pulled out of its alliance with the BJP government over the issue of granting special status to Andhra Pradesh.

The motion will most likely be unsuccessful as BJP has the required majority in the Lok Sabha which the party has to prove. So this can be seen only as making a point by the opposition parties as they cannot defeat BJP in this motion.

Sonia Gandhi, Congress senior leader when questioned told NDTV, “Who says we don’t have numbers?”

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anant Kumar showed his trust in the government and said, “The opposition may have no confidence on PM Modi’s government, but I want to make it absolutely clear that the people of the country have full confidence”.

This is the first instance in 15 years that a no-confidence motion was not only moved against the Central government but also got accepted in the Lok Sabha.
