Two exit polls have declared BJP the winner in the Northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland. This news will not sit well with the Communist Party whose 25-year old rule in Tripura if the polls are right will come to an end.

According to the NewsX poll, BJP-IPFT alliance is expected to win 35 of 45 seats in Tripura with a vote share of 51 percent. According to the Axis My India exit poll the other suggests 44 out of 50 seats for BJP with a vote share of 49 percent and the others gaining 0-3 seats receiving a vote share of 11 percent. The third poll by CVoter expects a close fight between the Left and BJP, the Left winning 26 out of 34 seats and BJP, 24 of 32 seats.

In Meghalaya the Axis My India poll predicted the Congress to emerge as the party to look out for with 20 seats, Sangma’s NPP would gain 14 seats, BJP would win 5 and the others, 20. The NewsX poll says BJP-NDPP would win 23 of 27 seats, Congress 13 out of 17 seats, BJP 8 out of 12 and others 2 out of 6. The CVoter poll suggests that NPP would get 17 out of 23 seats, and Congress would get 13 out of 19 seats.

In Nagaland, according to the Axis My India poll, NPF would have the edge, but it didn’t specify the number of seats it would win. The NewsX poll said that BJP-NDPP would get 27 of 32 seats, NPF would follow with 20 of 25, Congress 0 of 2 and others 5 of 7. The CVoter poll says that BJP-NDPP would win 25 of 31 seats and NPF would get 19 fo 25 seats.

While the polling has gone on smoothly in the regions with few hiccups, the results of each state will be announced on March 3rd. If the exit polls are anything to go by Congress will lose power with only one state under its wing, Mizoram, this would also affect its running in the 2019 elections.
