A total of 164 candidates are in the fray for 7 Lok Sabha Seats of the national capital out of which only 13 candidates are women for the mega polls 2019. 9 candidates on Friday withdraw the nomination that makes candidates 164 from 173 Candidates. One each women candidate has been named by the major political parties – AAP, Congress and BJP.

Bharatiya Janata Party in a run-up to the national elections has named sitting MP Meenakshi Lekhi from New Delhi parliamentary seat. While AAP named Atishi from Delhi East Seat, while Congress Delhi Chief Sheila Dixit is contesting from Delhi North East Lok Sabha Seat.

In 2014 national elections, 150 candidates contested the Lok Sabha polls from the national capital, of which 13 were women. However, only one – Meenakshi Lekhi won the polls.

While in 2009 national elections, 150 candidates contested the Lok Sabha Polls in the national capital, out of which 18 were women.

The New Delhi Lok Sabha Polls has highest of 27 candidates for the mega polls while the North West seat has the least 11 contenders.

AAP’s nominee Atishi from Delhi East is contesting the polls against BJP’s Gautam Gambhir and Congress nominee Arvinder Singh Lovely. In North-East Lok Sabha Polls, DPCC Chief Sheila Dixit is pitched against BJP Delhi Chief Manoj Tiwari and AAP’s Dilip Pandey. While in New Delhi Lok Sabha Seat, BJP’s Meenakshi Lekhi is pitched against Congress Ajay Maken and AAP’s Brijesh Goyal.

Apart from prominent faces, there are 10 other women who have filed nomination to be in the fray for the mega polls 2019. They all are either filed nomination as an independent nominee or from small parties.

Deepti Chopra from Prism Party, Richa Katiyar Kanaujia from Right to Recall Party and Suman Devi from Bharat Lok Sewak party are in the fray for the electoral battle from Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency.

While a lone women candidate – Dikshit – filed a nomination from North-East constituency.

Deepti Nadella from Pyramid Party of India and Neeru Mongia of Prism Party is contesting the polls from Delhi East Lok Sabha Seat apart from Atishi Marlena.

While from New Delhi Lok Sabha Seat, an Independent nominee Priyanka is contesting mega polls apart from BJP’s Meenakshi Lekhi. From North-West Delhi, an independent nominee Aditi has filed nomination.

From West Delhi Seat, Poonam of People’s party has filed her nomination.

South Delhi Lok Sabha, where Ramesh Bidhuri is seeking another term, two women candidates – Suman Yadav from Jai Maha Bharath Party and Sumedha Bodh from Jan Samman Party is contesting.

Lok Sabha Polls 2019 across the nation has already begun and would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Counting of Votes and Results for the mega Battle of ballots will be announced on May 23.

All 7 parliamentary seats of Delhi will vote on May 12.
