As the parliament was all set and decorated for the roll out of GST at midnight on 30 June, the opposition party, Congress was again finding ways to criticise the decision of the ruling BJP-led NDA government. They showed their opposition by talking about a statement given by Narendra Modi few years back regarding the implementation of GST.

Congress released an old video of interview of  Modi giving his views about the implementation of GST. In the video Modi had said that GST will not be successful until a systematic IT infrastructure is set up. During the interview he also mentioned that he had a meeting with the than finance minister Pranab Mukherjee. They discussed about GST and Modi said that Mukherjee agreed on the opinion that GST could not be successful unless an IT sector is set up.

Congress has now released the edited version of the video again, which only says that Modi was against the implementation of GST and said that it will not be successful. The opposition party has alleged Modi that how quickly he forgot his own words and how could he roll out GST without building proper IT infrastructure for its success.

Congress tweeted the edited video with the caption “This is what Modi ji & the BJP really think of GST”

Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi who is currently enjoying his vacations abroad also tweeted that, “A reform that holds great potential is being rushed through in a half-baked way with a self-promotional spectacle #GSTTamasha,”

Where Congress is opposing the roll out of GST releasing old video of Modi and did not even attend the midnight announcement at the Parliament on 30 June, on the basis of statement given by Modi in an interview few years back, the actual video says something different.
