The ruling BJP officials on Thursday informed the Congress that the chairmanship of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice will soon be taken away from the party.

This decision of the Modi government comes after much heated meetings and discussion among senior leaders of BJP and Congress. After three days of fierce discussion between Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Ananth Kumar, Vijay Goel and Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ahmed Patel and Anand Sharma which concluded on Thursday, both the parties could not come down to agreeable terms.

After the meeting, the Modi government conveyed to Congress that it was removing this particular standing committee from the Congress quota. After Congress, the government is most likely to give the chairmanship of the panel of one of the allies and AIADMK seem to be the first choice. Though nothing is finalised yet.

The outcome of this expulsion of Congress is most likely to affect the proceedings of the parliament. Reacting to the decision of BJP, Congress leaders have called it arbitrary and have registered their protest with government representatives. The party has also warned that after this decision the ruling party may not enjoy the support and cooperation of the opposition in the parliament.

It was reported earlier in the month that both the party were engaged in a tussle war after BJP had suggested that the Chairmanship of the standing committee be taken away from Congress, which is currently being headed by Congress deputy leader in Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma.

As per the latest updates, the panel currently is scrutinising all the recommendations and the best party to hold the position.
