Muhammad Khalil Bandh

Days after resigning from the party, former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Minister and one of the founding members of PDP, Muhammad Khalil Bandh on Sunday joined the regional National Conference (NC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Muhammad Khalil Bandh had resigned from the primary membership of the PDP last week. In a letter to the party president, Bandh stated that he has “upended after the demise of Mufti Mohammed Sayeed.”

He added after the death of Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, many leaders were being ignored.

Muhammad Khalil Bandh joined Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Sunday in Srinagar in the presence of party chief Farooq Abdullah and some other senior NC leaders.

‘PDP District President Pulwama and former MLA Mohammad Khalil Bandh was welcomed into National Conference by party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah at party headquarters Nawa e Subah, Srinagar today’, said Jammu and Kashmir National Conference in a tweet.

Bandh had won the state assembly elections thrice contesting on PDP’s ticket from Pulwama Assembly constituency and was a minister in the then ruling PDP-BJP coalition that was collapsed in June last year.

It should be noted months after facing a crushing defeat in the national polls, PDP is facing a crisis with many leaders quitting the party. Those who have left the PDP, after its poll setback, include Mohammad Khalil Bandh, Altaf Bukhari, Haseeb Drabu, Imran Ansari, Abid Ansari, and Abbas Wani. All five leaders are the former legislators of the party.

PDP suffered a huge setback and lost all 6 Lok Sabha Seats in Jammu and Kashmir with Mehbooba Mufti lost the polls from her home turf Anantnag Lok Sabha Seat. The party managed to secure 2.4 percent vote share in the national polls.

PDP last week also announced to dissolve the party’s top decision-making Political Affairs Committee (PAC).

Speaking about the development, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Spokesperson told media, ‘Party President Mehbooba Mufti has dissolved the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) with immediate effects and a new body, PCA, will be reconstituted soon’.
