After the latest cabinet reshuffle, Piyush Goyal has been promoted to a cabinet rank and he will now handle railway ministry. In his new role, Piyush Goyal, who was earlier handling power and energy, will replace Suresh Prabhu.
Off late, Suresh Prabhu and his office were under criticism for increased instances of train derailment and accidents. Suresh Prabhu had earlier offered to quit, however, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked him to wait.
Piyush Goyal has been rewarded for an impeccable run as the minister for power and coal. He has been responsible for revamping the whole sector, making India power surplus as well as to ensure transparent auctions in power and coal sectors. Analysts term his working style as non-conventional and he has always been in new for all the good things.
Taking charge of the ministry, Piyush Goyal will have huge expectations. Railway, being a huge sector in the country, employing over 13 lakh individuals, has not had the best of days off-late. Along with that, the past record of Piyush Goyal gives a lot more hopes to the analysts and the common citizens. For him, the initial challenges will be to address the smaller concerns.
The BJP leadership has had a long term confidence in Piyush Goyal. He was one of the junior leaders who got important portfolio post BJP’s win in 2014 and has delivered on the promises and expectations. He has often been termed as BJP’s next-gen leader and he will have huge expectations before the upcoming general elections in 2019.
