As the date for presidential polls gets nearer, the political tension seems to be increasing. The top leadership of BJP and the opposition camp is getting ready for the two big elections in the coming weeks.

The parties have sorted out the candidates for the presidential post, however, there is still no confirmation over the candidate for vice presidential elections. The final date to file nominations for the vice presidential elections is 18th July.

Narendra Modi, who was out on his tour to Israel and then to G20 Summit, has just returned to the country and advance the discussion in regards to shortlist the candidate is likely in the coming days. With this, there are speculations that BJP might announce their candidate sometime this week.

BJP is certain of the win of Ram Nath Kovind as the president. BJP currently has over 62% vote count for the presidential elections, however, same is not the case with vice presidential elections. The voting for president includes every elected representative in both the houses of centre and all the assemblies of states and union territories. Though BJP has a clear mandate combining the whole electoral vote bank, it might fall just short to elect its candidate as the vice president. The election for vice president has voted by the representatives of the leaders in both the houses of central government. BJP does have a clear majority in Lok Sabha, it will still need to bring a few members to its side in the Rajya Sabha. BJP currently has the support of 337 members combined in both the houses, whereas, the majority mark needs at least 394 members.

Though it should not be too difficult for BJP to get those seats to its side, a possible collaboration from the opposition side might make the election interesting. It will be great to see which way the election moves, however, for now, the political fraternity is waiting for the camps to announce their candidates.
