On 27th February, BS Yeddyurappa’s 75th birthday, Narendra Modi spent his day at a farmer’s convention addressing them and the problems they faced under the Congress government.
Narendra Modi dubbed the Congress governance a ‘seeda rupaiya sarkar‘. He was referring to the corruption and made it clear that the people shouldn’t allow it continue even for a minute. This is Modi’s third visit to the state in less than a month’s time. The prime minister also listed out the various agricultural reforms enacted by the government during the rally in Davangere.
He asserted that Congress doesn’t do any work without money and doesn’t listen to Karnataka’s people. The rally was particularly organised to celebrated Yeddyurappa’s birthday, BJP’s chief ministerial candidate. The BJP government so far hasn’t fared well with farmers and are yet to win their trust. The rally itself was titled, ‘Raitha Bandhu Yeddyurappa‘ (The farmer-friendly Yeddyurappa rally). The farmers have so far faced much trouble in the form of droughts and decrease in agricultural production as well. He used the example of Gujarat’s agricultural growth thanks to BJP’s water conservation methods there.
Modi said after visiting a couple of places around the state, he has come to know the mood of the people. He also spoke about farmer suicides and the different campaigns organised to help them. He pointed out that Yeddyurappa was the first chief minister to have a separate budget for agriculture in 2011. While giving a fitting reply to Siddaramaiah’s comment of him being the ‘facilitator of corruption’ he forgot to remember the misdeeds of his party’s chief ministerial candidate, Yeddyurappa. Both parties’ top leaders have been frequenting Karnataka over the past few months gathering support for their respective parties. Karnataka considering BJP’s grand performance in the other states will be an important battle for Congress, one whose results will be highly anticipated.
