Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on repealing of Article 370 on Thursday. His speech was expected to be in the direction of Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, the center point of his address was the balanced development of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

He said that with this abrogation of Article 370, the country has fulfilled the long-lived dream of Sardar Patel, Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and millions of patriots like martyred soldiers such as Rajouri’s Rukhsana and Aurangzeb.

Dig at Pakistan“- PM Modi slammed Pakistan government of using Article 370 and Article 35A for alienating Kashmiri people form Indian spirit. He said that the neighboring country was using these provisions for instigating terrorism on Indian soil. Due to Pakistan’s actions, 42,000 people lost their lives in the past 30 years. He hailed his government’s decision and said that he is assured that under the new system, Kashmir will no longer breathe under Terrorism and Separatism.

Potential of Jammu and Kashmir“- Prime Minister mentioned that Jammu and Kashmir has the potential of being the biggest tourist hub in the world. He reminded people about the times when lots of Bollywood movies were used to be shot in the region. He also hoped that in the coming time, even international film shoots will take place in the erstwhile state. Prime Minister also mentioned about organic and herbal products distributed in the region.

Obstruction due to Article 370“- He mentioned that due to Article 370, children in Jammu and Kashmir were not able to avail benefits under RTE (Right to Education). Safai Karmachari Act that was implemented in other states could not be implemented in Jammu and Kashmir which has affected the sanitation work. Women of Jammu and Kashmir were not given rights as women of other states. He, therefore, questioned the nation regarding the benefit of Article 370, if it’s retainment had any positive effect on the ordinary lives of people.

Attack on elections in Jammu and Kashmir“- He lashed out at the fact that considerable size of the population was unable to vote in Jammu and Kashmir. He also attacked the dynastic politics in the region that hindered the development of Jammu and Kashmir.

Perks for J&K people“- He also announced that the government employees and police officials of Jammu and Kashmir will get the same perks as their counterpart in other Union Territories. He also said that the local youth will be inculcated in military and paramilitary forces.  He assured that the pending vacancies in the government of Jammu and Kashmir will be filled up fast and Prime Minister scholarship scheme will be extended to the region.

He then wished all for upcoming Eid celebration and assured people about the decision that, it was well-thought and will only bring development and prosperity to the nation.
