Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the 6km Long first phase of Ahmedabad Metro rail service. He also inaugurated extension to Metro Rail Projects in Ahmedabad.

Later, accompanied by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, the Prime Minister travelled from Vastral to Nirant Road metro station in the eastern industrial suburb of Ahmedabad. PM Modi also interacted with school children on the train.

The first trial run on the 6.5 km route of the metro rail was successfully conducted recently.

The cabinet has also recently cleared phase-II of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail project. As part of the metro rail commissioning programme, PM Modi will lay the foundation of the 28.28-kilometre second phase of the Ahmedabad Metro and also travel some distance on the phase 1 stretch.

The project comprises two corridors of with a total length of 28.254 km: Corridor 1 from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir (22.838 km) and Corridor 2 from GNLU to GIFT City (5.416 km). Total completion cost of Phase-II metro is estimated at 5,384.17 crore.

The project will provide the much-needed additional public transport infrastructure to Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The second phase of metro rail project is aimed at streamlining the urban transportation system in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar — which is stressed due to intensive developments, increase in the number of private vehicles and heavy construction in the city.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to his Home turf, Gujarat on Monday also inaugurated several Developmental Projects related to Healthcare and Railway in Ahmedabad.

PM Narendra Modi also flagged off Humsafar Express train between Jamnagar and Bandra Terminus via video conference & inaugurated various development projects in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
