The survey conducted by India Today-Karvy Insights reveals that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lost some of his popularity among the citizens. Although he is still the first choice for the Prime Minister post in the upcoming general elections.

India Today’s Mood of the Nation(MOTN)  survey conducted between July 18 to July 29, shows that if Lok Sabha elections will take place today, Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance will come short of a majority.

NDA can be seen bagging 281 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha, while the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance will win only 122 seats, as per MOTN. The surprise comes from the seats acquired by Others, which can be seen gaining 140 seats.

The survey claims, in vote sharing, NDA would win 36 per cent of votes, while the UPA would win 31 per cent.

According to the MOTN July 2018 poll, though BJP will reemerge as the single-largest party, it will not enjoy its ‘current single handed majority’. The party is seen bagging 245 seats in the upcoming elections, whereas in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections it won 282 seats. The Congress, however, seems to be nearly doubling its number, by bagging 83 seats. The Others, appear strong, can win 215 seats, shows the poll.

PM Modi’s popularity seems to be slipping away though by 4 per cent. The survey shows that it’s time for Modi-Shah duo to start worrying about regaining the popularity for ‘Brand Modi’, as his popularity has dropped from 53% in January 2018 to 49% in July 2018, reported The Quint. While Rahul Gandhi is the second choice for the PM face, with 27 per cent votes. Priyanka Gandhi becomes the third choice with a mere 3 per cent votes.

Demonetisation emerges as the biggest factor leading to the fall in Modi’s popularity. The 2016 demonitisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, led to ‘more pain than gain’ for PM Modi, claims MOTN July 2018 survey.

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee emerges as the best Chief Minister followed by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal bags the third position.

According to the survey, 34 per cent of respondents biggest concern is unemployment. Price rise and corruption take the second and third place respectively.

The survey finds Rahul Gandhi as the best Prime Minister face to lead the national grand alliance.
