Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is seeking another term from Varanasi Lok Sabha Seat will begin his two-day trip to his parliamentary constituency today. PM Modi during his 2-day will end up filing nomination for the mega polls 2019.

PM Modi who is slated to reach Varanasi this evening will lead a roadshow ahead of filing nomination. He will begin his roadshow from the gates of the Banaras Hindu University, passing through ancient temples and ghats before finally ending in the holiest ghats of them all – Dashashwamedh.

While PM Modi on Friday will fill his nomination for the parliamentary seat. Party Chief Amit Shah speaking to media on Wednesday said many leaders of the national democratic alliance will also attend nomination of the Prime Minister. He said, ‘Sukhbir Singh Badal, Nitish KumarUddhav Thackeray and other NDA leaders will be present during nomination filing by PM Modi on April 26′.

Apart from PM Modi’s visit to his Lok Sabha Seat, what is making stories in the front pages is the speculations about Priyanka Gandhi making an electoral debut to take on PM Modi from the Lok Sabha Seat.

Congress State Functionaries familiar with the development said that the Chances of Priyanka Gandhi to contest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi is 50:50. Sources familiar with the development said Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi has agreed to contest from Varanasi while its the party President Rahul Gandhi who has to make a final call on this.

Within the past week, Priyanka Gandhi has said at least twice that she would contest from Varanasi “if the party asks me”.

Modi had in 2014 General elections defeated AAP’Arvind Kejriwal with over 3.80 Lakh votes. Prior to Narendra Modi, BJP Senior Leader Murli Manohar Joshi represented the Varanasi Seat since 2009-2014. However, he has was shifted to Kanpur in 2014 after Narendra Modi decided to contest from Varanasi.

Narendra Modi in a run-up to the national elections 2019 will take on SP’s Shalini Yadav, a joint candidate of Mahagathbandhan. While it would be interesting to see if SP-BSP Mahagathbandhan would withdraw their candidate if Congress names Priyanka Gandhi from the Varanasi Lok Sabha Seat.
