The Poll Commission on Tuesday deferred polling in the Tripura East Lok Sabha Seat from April 18 to 23 citing “law and order situation.” The decision came after Poll Observers and Police Observers conveyed to the Poll Body that situation in the parliamentary constituency is not conducive to hold free and fair elections.

The Poll Body following which deferred the polling from Second Phase of April 18 to April 23, the third phase of Elections. Considering the recommendations from Police Observers, the Returning Officer also asked for extra central forces in the parliamentary constituency.

Political Parties including Congress and CPI(M) hailed the decision of Poll Body for deferring the polls in the east Tripura constituency. Both the Opposition Parties were lodging complaints with the commission at regular intervals.

General Elections have already begun from April 11 and would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Counting of votes for the crucial mega battle of ballots will be held on May 23.

91 Parliamentary Seats across 20 states and UTs voted on April 11 as a part of Round One of Polling. Tripura has two Lok Sabha Seats, out of which one voted on April 11.
