Ahead of the bypolls in Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency a shocking incident has taken polling officials by surprise. To everyone’s shock, Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s name appeared on a voter slip. He is from Delhi, but his name appears registered under Sahajanwa Assembly with voter number given as 822.

Sunita Chaubey, a booth-level officer took notice of the blunder and initiated the same to her seniors. The identity number in the slip is RHB2231801.  Gorakhpur will go for Lok Sabha bypolls on March 11. An investigation has been setup by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pankaj Srivastava.

Call for elections

Bypolls in Gorakhpur and Phulpur were called for after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya vacated the seats for their election to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.

Varanasi’s former mayor Kaushlendra Singh Patel is contesting from Phulpur while Upendra Shukla is contesting from Gorakhpur on a BJP ticket. Patel will take on Samajwadi Party’s Nagendra Singh Patel. Former MP Pradip Kumar Singh will be the candidate in Araria.
