President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday addressed a joint session of both the houses of parliament at the central hall. He began his speech by congratulating all the newly elected MPs, voters, Security Personnel and the Poll Commission for their contributions in holding the national elections for the 17th Lok Sabha.

President said, ‘This time around more than half of the MPs are the first time MPs, while the number of women representative has also increased and stands at all-time high 78. ‘This represents New India’.

He further said, ‘In this Lok Sabha elections, more than 61 crore citizens cast their vote and set a new record. The people of India gave a clear mandate. The government is working for ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’.

He also said efforts to make GST more simplified is underway. He also lauded the government for introducing a pension scheme for small traders.

Lauding the government for setting up the ‘Jal Shakti Ministry’, President Ram Nath Kovind said that government is taking the cognizance of the water crisis in the country. ‘We have to conserve water for our future generations. In this direction, the creation of Jal Shakti Ministry is a decisive step’, he said as quoted by ANI.

He also said that the work to develop the 112 ‘aspiration districts’ of the country is underway on a large scale. He added that to strengthen rural India, there is a need for Investment and the investment is being made. It is made to increase the productivity of the agricultural sector.

Talking about the need to abolish Triple Talaq and Nikah Halala, President Ram Nath Kovind said, ‘To ensure equal rights for women, it is important to do away with practices like ‘Triple Talaq’ and Nikah-Halala’. He further said that ‘I request all the members to work on the direction to make the lives of sisters and daughters more dignified and improved’.

Further talking about the government’s scheme, President said ‘Under the Prime Minister’s Mudra Yojana around 19 crore loans have been given for self-employment, this scheme will now be expanded to 30 crore people in the coming years’.

He further lauded Mission Shakti and said, ‘The successful test of Mission Shakti has added a new dimension to India’s space technology capability’.

Talking about the Uri Surgical Strike and Balakot Air Strikes, President said with this India has cleared his intention, ‘We will take all possible steps to protect ourselves in Future too’, President said while addressing the MPs of both the houses.

In his address, President also raised the issue of NRC and said, ‘Foreigners entering our country is a great threat to our internal security. My government has decided that the process of the NRC will be implemented on a priority basis the regions facing such issues’.

Concluding his remarks President stress upon the need of ‘One Nation and One Election’ and said that this will lead to the fast development of our country’.

The first session of Lok Sabha began on Monday with the oath-taking ceremony of all the new MPs. While the election to the Lok Sabha Speaker held on Wednesday. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha MP from Kota Om Birla elected to the post unanimously.

The Upper House of the Parliament, Rajya Sabha will host its session from June 20 to July 26.

The Economic Survey will be released on the 4th of July a day before. While next day, that is on July 5th, new Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table the full-fledged budget in the House.
