The voting for Presidential elections took place on 17 July and the results of the polls will be announced today. The counting of the votes began at 11:00 a.m. in the presence of NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind, opposition candidate Meira Kumar and the observers of the Election Commission.

The counting began at 11 a.m. simultaneously across four tables and Ram Nath Kovind leads with 60,683 votes, over Meira Kumar at 22,941 votes after the first round was completed. States that were covered in the first round of counting are Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Bihar.

The voting was close to 99 per cent and as per the records, this is the highest-ever percentage of voting done. Of the total 4,880 valid voters, 4,109 members of legislative Assemblies (MLAs) and 771 elected members of Parliament (MPs), 99.49% had cast their vote to elect the next President of India on July 17.

Ram Nath Kovind’s victory is almost inevitable as already got the support of more than 50% of the voters, which is more than necessary to win the polls. The people of the native village of Kovind have already begun with the preparations for the celebrations of his victory and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had in advanced congratulated Kovind for the victory.
