The voting for the Presidential Elections was held on 17 July in room no 62 of the Parliament. NDA Candidate Ram Nath Kovind and Opposition candidate Meira Kumar contested for the election.

Voting for the election was done through secret ballot system and each elector was given a special inked pen for voting. The MPs voted on green ballots and the MLAs voted on pink ballots. Six tables were allocated for the voting and Parliamentarians voted according to tables allocated to the States they represented. All the ballot boxes which flew in from other states also were securely stored in room no 62.

Lok Sabha Secretary General Anoop Mishra is the Returning Officer for the election and will issue the certificate to the winning candidate. The counting of the votes will begin on Thursday morning at 11 in the presence of NDA Candidate Ram Nath Kovind, Opposition Candidate Meira Kumar and the observers of the Election Commission.

In Monday’s polling, the states registered 100 per cent polling. The overall poll percentage was pegged at 99.41 per cent.

According to the officials, the counting will begin sharply at 11 a.m. simultaneously across four tables. There will be eight rounds of counting, and announcements will be made after every round. The results will be announced today.
