A minister of the Punjab cabinet has been caught on record flipping coin to decide the candidate for the post of lecturer. Revealing the shocking state of affairs is the clip going viral on social media and television channels as well. In a much more shocking comeback, the Punjab Congress has claimed that Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi only intended to make the choice transparent.  However, the claimant Congress seems to have set itself a great deal of embarrassment.

The incident took place on Monday when the postings of 37 recruits of the Punjab Public Service Commission were being talked on in the minister’s office. Eventually, two lecturers appeared seeking for the same posting at a government polytechnic institute in Patiala.

Mr Channi asked his officials and some bureaucrats to suggest a way out. The situation sought merit, but the minister said, “Why don’t we toss?” Taking a bow on the minister’s decision the young candidates agreed. Many in the room chuckled at the minister’s actions.

The minister, however, made a defending comeback by saying,

“There were 37 candidates and they were given stations of their choice. Two of the candidates wanted the same station, their merit was also same, therefore, they themselves proposed a toss… so we did. There was no wrongdoing; it was done purely based on merit.”

Congress leader Charan Singh Sapra chose his words as,

“Decisions in the World Cup also happen by toss; Mr Channi has not committed a crime.”

As a result, the BJP and the Akali Dal have been pushing hard for the minister’s removal.

“This indicates the quality of ministers in Amarinder Singh’s cabinet. The public should vote him out. There are some criteria to take such decisions; this man is just tossing the coin. This shows the kind of frivolous thinking,” said Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal of the Akali Dal.
