Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday in Amethi lashed out on the statements given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the decline in the GDP growth.

Narendra Modi, while addressing a meeting of the company secretaries had attacked the critics who were listing down the failures of the Modi government especially over the GST. He had said that the economy of India was on firm foot and the prevailing situations will be soon reversed. The PM had also stressed on the point that just for the mere gains of the present he would not jeopardise the future of the country.

Responding to these statements given by Modi, Rahul Gandhi while addressing the gathering in Amethi, questioned that what firm footing Modii was talking about, is he dreaming? He said that the GDP has declined to 2% and millions of people have lost their jobs. He also attacked Modi over the ‘56-inch chest’ remark saying that the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh did not have a 56-inch chest but he had the mind to take the right decisions like the MNREGA, loan waiver, right to information (RTI) and right to food.

Rahul Gandhi said, “Don’t know what track he is talking about and what is he dreaming of… economists, newspapers, shopkeepers say that he has spoiled the economy but he says that it is on the right track… he is not ready to hear anyone.”

He also took a jibe at the Prime MInister over the bullet train project of Modi saying that Narendra Modi is only interested in boasting around if he would have used the rupees one lakh crore to improve the existing railway lines, station or freight train, the people would have been happier and the country would have benefitted. He also informed that one lakh crore has been taken as loan from Japan he ticket between Ahmedabad and Mumbai will be Rs 4000.

The Congress leader also hit the ruling government over the issues of farmers suicide, unemployment and demonetisation. Rahul said that the economy is damaged, the farmers are committing suicides and out of the 30,000 youths entering the market seeking job, only 450 are employed and the Prime Minister is still only giving long speeches.

Rahul attacking the government over demonetisation said that Modi took the decision without consulting anyone, he further added that had the Prime Minister consulted anyone, nobody would have advised him to take such decision. “The same was done on GST,” he said. The Congress leader also informed that Congress President Sonia Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh and former finance minister P Chidambaram had said that implementing GST was originally the idea of Congress, but Modi did not understand the concept and brought five different slabs.

He further added that Modi should understand that running the government and making hollow, false promises were two different things and the entire nation is aware of it. Attacking Modi for failing on his promise to create jobs, Rahul said that in regards to the employment, India was in competition with China. But the reality is that China is employing 50,000 youth daily while India’s number is only 450 and this is the ‘Make in India’ campaign of Modi, he said.

The Congress Vice President had also challenged the Modi government that if they accept that they failed on the front of creating jobs, they should accept it and let the Congress take over. He also claimed that the party will be successful in achieving the aim in 6 months.
