Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday asked all the state in-charges of the party to submit the assessment report reviewing the party’s poor show in recently held national polls. All the state in-charges have been asked to submit its survey report to the Congress President by the end of this month.

Congress days after facing a humiliating defeat started conducting surveys. Reportedly, the party has conducted its survey in its booth level workers to evaluate the reasons behind the poll disaster.

Gandhi had offered to step down from his post at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held on Saturday. Reportedly despite the CWC rejected his resignation, now an MP from Wayanad Rahul Gandhi is said to be unfazed.

The Congress had on Saturday held its Working Committee meeting to discuss the reasons responsible for its poor performance in the recently held national polls 2019. Rahul Gandhi taking moral responsibility of defeat had on Saturday offered his resignation and asked party leaders to get a new name for party president post.

The Congress faced a crushing defeat in national polls and won 52 seats, which is only 8 more than it got in 2014 national polls. It has also lost some of its strongholds across the country including Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Jyotiraditya Scindia‘s Guna in Madhya Pradesh.

Except, the two south states – Kerela and Tamil Nadu – Congress failed to score in all states including – Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand. Despite its humiliating performance in all over India, Congress along with MK Stalin’s DMK swept Tamil Nadu in the recently held elections. DMK who led the Secular Progressive Alliance of which Congress, communist parties, Vaiko’s MDMK and Dalit outfit VCK were a part, had won 38 of the 39 Parliamentary seats that went to polls in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

While the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party, on May 23 scripted history by bagging 303 seats on its own in the recently concluded national polls. Along with its allies, it took its tally to 352 Lok Sabha Seats out of 542 Seats were national polls held in April-May in seven phases.
