Rahul Gandhi campaigning

The dates for Gujarat Assembly elections have been announced and all the political parties have gotten into the complete election mode. While BJP claims that the party is getting a landslide victory in the state, Congress and Hardik Patel are writing down anything as of yet.

Amid the ongoing political tussle, Rahul Gandhi has once again reached Gujarat to campaign for the upcoming assembly elections. On the current tour, Rahul is expected to be in Vadodara, Bharuch and Surat. One of the major objectives that Rahul Gandhi is targetting, remains interacting with traders and businessmen, who are reportedly unsatisfied with the implementation of GST.

Along with that, Rahul Gandhi will also chair a meeting with the Gujarat Congress leaders in the party headquarters at Gandhi Nagar. The meeting might have a discussion on the names of probable candidates for the elections. However, any announcement of the names is highly unlikely, at least for now.

On this trip, there are also expectations that Congress might announce an agreement with JDU faction led by Chhotubhai Vasava. Vasava, interim president of JDU’s Sharad Yadav faction played an instrumental role in making Ahmed Patel win the recently concluded election for the upper house of Parliament. Ashok Gehlot, head of Gujarat Congress, along with Rahul Gandhi had recently met Vasava, however, no official confirmation on this has been made yet.

Recently, in an interview with ET, Vasava had said that the meeting with Gehlot and Gandhi was positive and both the parties have agreed in principle to fight the elections together. According to him, the coalition between JDU and Congress can impact the calculations in up to 50 constituencies, where the tribals have a significant vote-share.

There are also speculations that Rahul Gandhi will meet Patidar leader Hardik Patel and Dalit representative Jignesh Mevani, however, Congress claimed that no meeting has been fixed as of yet. However, it added that BJP’s policies have been against the two communities and it is just a matter of time that the two representatives will announce their support to the Congress party.
