Janta Dal (Secular) JD(S) Supreme HD Deve Gowda on Wednesday demanded at least 10 Lok Sabha Seats in Karnataka from Indian National Congress for Upcoming Lok Sabha Seats. Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda who had earlier in the day held discussions with the Congress President Rahul Gandhi said that INC Chief will take a final call soon on seat sharing arrangement in Karnataka.

‘There are 28 seats in all. I have clinched 10 seats. A final decision will be taken after Rahul Gandhi discusses it with AICC General Secretary of Karnataka KC Venugopal and js(s) National Secretary Danish Ali’ Gowda said after he held deliberations with Congress Chief.

Gowda added that this is the first seat-sharing discussions in Karnataka. Karnataka has a total of 28 Lok Sabha Seats. Earlier, I had asked for 12 seats in the state. I insisted to give at least 10 seats to JD(S) at the meeting with Rahul Gandhi.” Gowda said reportedly.

Earlier on Monday, The Coordination Committee of JD(S)- Congress coalition met to discuss the seat-sharing terms for Upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

However, it was claimed that the talks remained inconclusive.

Seat sharing will be a major test for both parties the JD(S), banking on two-thirds, one-third formula adopted in ministry formation and allocation of boards and corporations has demanded 12 seats out of the total of 28.

The BJP in 2014 General Elections had won 17 seats while Congress had won 9 seats in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections. JD(S) who has contested 25 Lok Sabha seats in 2014 General Elections won only two seats.

The saffron party had a 43.37 per cent vote share in the state followed by Congress’ 41.15 per cent. The JD(S) had a vote share of 11.07 per cent votes in 2014 General Elections.

Congress after Karnataka State Polls in 2018 extended unconditional Support to JD(S) in a move to keep BJP out of the power. Mayawati’s BSP aligned with JD(S) with the help of which BSP made it to the Karnataka Assembly with its one lawmaker in 25 years. However, whether BSP would support the JD(S)-Congress alliance is still not clear.
