Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after analyzing the flood situation in his constituency Wayanad (Kerala), has written letters to three different Union Ministers asking for their help.

He wrote letters addressing to Union Minister of Agriculture Narendra Tomar, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. The letter by the leader sought to rehabilitate the affected people in the state.

The floods have devastated the state and caused a huge loss to the life and property in the state. It has been reported that at least 125 people were killed and around 16,000 houses were damaged in Kerala owing to nature’s fury.

In his letter, Rahul Gandhi explained how Kerala witnessed one of the worst floods in the last few decades. He expressed the people’s hardships through his words and called on Narendra Tomar to expand the workdays under MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) for Kerala. He called for invoking of Section 3 (4) of the MGNREGA Act, 2005 that empowers the central government to increase the number of days of employment beyond the guaranteed period. Therefore heĀ urged the minister to increase the minimum guaranteed days of employment for a family to 200 days.

LETTER TO NARENDRA TOMAR-

In another letter to Nitin Gadkari, the leader asked for funds to repair the roads damaged by floods. He wrote that landslides have caused heavy damage to the National Highway 766, which connects Karnataka to Kerala. He urged the Minister for providing immediate assistance and rebuilding resources.

A letter addressed to Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan carried the leader’s request to set up relief camps in Nilambur. Rahul Gandhi had also pleaded to centre earlier to help the flood-ravaged Kerala.
