Ahead of the upcoming assembly polls, Congress party president Rahul Gandhi has set up nine committees to look after the election campaign in Rajasthan. After Mayawati’s denial to the party of no more alliances in the state poll, the Congress party seems to be back on track and focusing on contesting the elections alone.

An AICC statement said, “The nine committees are election coordination committee, Pradesh election committee, campaign committee, publicity and publication committee, media and communications committee, transport, and accommodation committee, protocol committee and discipline committee”.

The state leaders Ashok Gehlot, also a former chief minister of the state will be chairing the coordination panel while the state party chief Sachin Pilot will head the state election committee. These two are supposedly the chief ministerial aspirants in the state.

As Mr. Gandhi does not want to make the leaders feel that they are left out, he has managed to assign each leader a responsibility.

Harish Chaudhary, AICC secretary, will head the party’s manifesto committee, while Raghu Sharma, MP from Alwar will chair the campaign committee.

Other senior leaders from the state such as  Girija Vyas, Mohan Prakash will be the part of state election committee while CP Joshi has been appointed as the chairman of Publicity Committee.

Raghu Meena, deputy leader of the opposition in the Rajasthan assembly, will be the convener of the state election committee.

Govind Singh Dotasra, MLA from Lakshmangarh will head the media and coordination committee, while former Lalsot legislator Parsadilal Meena will look after the transport and accommodation committee.

Rajasthan Mahila Congress chief Rehana Riaz has been appointed as head of the protocol committee while the former Rajasthan education minister Bhanwarlal Meghwal will head the disciplinary committee.

In the last assembly polls, the Congress party managed to win only 26 seats out of 200 constituency seats. While in 2014 Lok Sabha elections the party could not even win one seat, it did manage to win two seats from Ajmer and Alwar in the by-poll held in February this year.

In the wake of this victory, and growing anti-incumbency against BJP, the Congress party is hopeful of turning the tables in the next assembly polls.
