Congress president Rahul Gandhi is to be on a two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency Amethi from Friday this week, an INC functionary said on Tuesday. Gandhi’s visit to his home turf this time is set for a high-decibel face-off as the Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani is also slated to visit the Parliamentary seat on Friday.

Congress President is slated to visit Amethi on January 4 and 5, while BJP Leader Irani will be in the district on January 4 in which both leaders will attend several events separately.

Congress District President Yogendra Mishra told Media that, “Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi will land in Lucknow on January 4 and head to Amethi to visit some of the villages there. He will have a night stay at Munshiganj guest house.”

He added that Gandhi will meet his constituency people at the guest house on January 5 and later participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Musafirkhana Adhivakta Sangh.

While Irani will be attending a programme organized by Raghav Sewa Sansthan during which blankets and financial assistance will be distributed to poor persons and a foundation stone for a school will be laid.

Though both the leaders have visited the area several times in the last five years, this is the first time they will be in Amethi together at the same time.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi had in 2014 General Elections defeated BJP‘s candidate Smriti Irani from Amethi. Irani’s frequent visits to Amethi hints at that she is expected to contest from the Amethi seat once again in the 2019 General polls for which she has been trying to increase her influence through frequent visits.

With the 2019 General Elections approaching closer, the two leaders are back to the drawing board once against to activate their cadres and enthuse their voters.
