Congress President Rahul Gandhi who is contesting from Kerela’s Wayanad Parliamentary Seat will take on two its dummies – both have surnames Gandhi – who have thrown their hats as an Independent Candidates in the fray for the mega battle of Ballots.

Rahul Gandhi who had on April 4 filed his nominations will face – KE Rahul Gandhi and K Raghul Gandhi – in the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2019. Both Gandhis, other than Congress President is contesting the mega polls 2019 as an Independent Candidates. Both Independent Candidates are reported to come from a family who is a staunch supporter of the grand old party, as quoted The Quint.

K.E. Rahul Gandhi, a 33-year old is a folk Music Research Scholar and a resident of Erumeli village in Kottayam District. His father was reportedly an avid fan of Congress Party. The name of KE Rahul’s Younger Brother Rajiv Gandhi.

According to the Affidavit filed by K.E. Rahul, He is a social worker who holds a M.Phil Degree in Linguistic.

Raghul Gandhi K, a 30-year-old politician is contesting his third poll. He is a member of Agila India Makkal Kazhagam and has contested Assembly Polls and Civic Polls earlier. His father was reported to be associated with Congress in the past and later joined AIADMK in the state.

He is a reporter by profession.

Apart from both these Gandhis, there is another person in the fray who has a surname ‘Gandhi’. K.M. Shiva Prasad Gandhi, a 40 year Sanskrit teacher hails from Thrissur District.

‘During his Congress days, I was born and my father was named me as Raghul Gandhi K. My sister was named Indira Priyadarshini (After Indira Gandhi). Today that name given by my father has helped me to take on the Congress president.” Raghul Gandhi K, a candidate contesting from Wayanad said as quoted by the Quint. 

Apart from all, the Bharatiya Janata Party has named Shri Thushar Vellappally, President of Bharat Dharma Jana Sena against Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad Seat who had on Wednesday (last week) filed his nominations.

All Seats of Kerela including Wayanad will go to polls on April 23 in a single round of voting. The Nominations to be in the fray has already closed on and was allowed till April 4, 3 PM. April 8, Monday is the last date to withdraw nominations.

The Congress announced in last week on March that its president Rahul Gandhi would contest from Wayanad in addition to the Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

It should be noted that Congress move to named its President from Kerela’s Wayanad has irked the left parties in the State. Slamming the Congress President Prakash KaratCPI(M) ex-General Secretary had said ‘Decision of Congress to field Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad shows their priority now is to fight against Left in Kerala’.

However, the decision to contest from South State is seen as a Congress attempt to expand its voter base in the Kerela which has 20 Lok Sabha Seats.
