The newly appointed Congress General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh East, Priyanka Gandhi in her first official meeting on Thursday launched a scathing attack on RSS and BJP. During a meeting of general secretaries and state in charges at the party headquarters at 24, Akbar Road, Priyanka Gandhi said ‘ideology and thought process’ of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) need to be countered, told a party functionary who was present at the meeting.

Priyanka Gandhi also said she is new in the politics and inexperienced but asserted that she will give her best in upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2019, party functionary further told.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi who was also present in the meeting backed his sister Priyanka Gandhi and newly appointed general secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia and said they should not feel pressure with fast approaching Lok Sabha Polls. Rahul Gandhi said he did not expect a “miracle” from Priyanka Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia, party general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh west, in two months, and that they should not feel any pressure.

Party’s Organizational General Secretary KC Venugopal told media that Congress President gave clear directions to general secretaries and in-charges for the 2019 General Elections.

KC Venugopal also told media that Rahul Gandhi along with Priyanka and Scindia will go to Lucknow on February 11 to launch the party’s Poll Campaign for general elections.

Rahul Gandhi said the party should not give tickets to sitting Rajya Sabha members and legislators unless unavoidable. In response to a question from Scindia, the Congress president also told the leaders to avoid giving tickets to those who have lost elections more than once.

Earlier in the day while speaking at the AICC Minority Department National Convention, Rahul Gandhi launching a fresh salvo at Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, ‘I challenge the BJP, let Narendra Modi ji debate with me for 10 minutes on stage. He is scared, he is a ‘darpok’ person’.

Earlier Priyanka Gandhi on Monday held key meetings at Rahul’s residence with other Congres leaders and discussed the strategy for Uttar Pradesh-East as she has been made the general secretary for the region.

Priyanka Gandhi entered into politics formally on January 24, she has been made in-charge of 43 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.
