In an unexpected move, Indian National Congress has decided to field Manvendra Singh, former BJP MLA, and son of former BJP MP & central cabinet minister Jaswant Singh against the current chief minister, Vasundhara Raje. The move was announced as Congress released the second list of 32 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan. Congress had released the first list containing 152 names just a day before. The last date of filing nominations in Rajasthan is 19th November.

Speaking to Media, Manvendra Singh stated that the current government will face the heat of Rajputs for insulting their leader, Jaswant Singh. Jaswant Singh, who has been in coma for over 4 years now, was denied a ticket from Barmer in 2014 general elections. Manvendra Singh is currently an MLA from Sheo constituency in Rajasthan, where he won in 2013 on a BJP ticket.

Manvendra Singh had recently left BJP terming it as a mistake. Ongoing against Vasundhara Raje, he stated that fielding him against Raje is Party’s decision and he is ready to face the challenge. Vasundhara Raje has been an MLA from Jhalrapatan since 2003.

Rajasthan will vote for 200 member assembly on 7th December and the results will ne be announced on 11th December.
