Rajasthan Congress leadership

After days of speculation, Indian National Congress finally released the first list of 152 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan. Rajasthan is set to vote for a new government on 7th December and the results will be announced on 11th. The last date of filing nominations in Rajasthan is 19th November.

The election commission had issued the notification for Rajasthan elections on Monday and declared 19th November to be the last date for filing the nomination. Since then, there were a lot of speculations about the candidates Congress is going to field. BJP has already released two lists of candidates, the first of which, had 131 names, whereas, the second list contains 31 names.

Congress in Rajasthan has been trying to satisfy the two groups, and to avoid any rift in the party, two of its most popular faces in Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot, and Ashok Gehlot, both had declared to contest elections. There have been a lot of speculations about who would be Congress’ CM candidate in Rajasthan and the move to field both the contenders, seems to have delayed the discussion.

The 151 member list has both, Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot. Ashok Gehlot will contest from Sardarpura constituency in Jodhpur, whereas, Sachin Pilot has been fielded from Tonk seat. Other notable names in the list include Girija Vyas, former chief of National Commission for Women, who has been fielded from Udaipur and CP Joshi, another veteran in Rajasthan politics, will contest from Nathdwara.

BJP MP Harish Meena, who has just joined Congress after leaving BJP, has been given ticket from Deoli Uniara. Rameshwar Lal Dudi, who is currently the leader of the opposition, will contest from Nokha, whereas, AICC secretary Harish Choudhary will contest from Bytoo seat. Habibur Rahman, former BJP MLA from Nagaur, who left BJP to join Congress just days ago, has also been given a ticket from Nagaur.

Krishna Punia, discus thrower & Arjuna award winner, has been given ticket to contest from Sadulpur constituency. Pratap Singh Khachariyawas will contest from Civil Lines constituency in Jaipur.

Manvendra Singh, son of former BJP union minister Jaswant Singh, who had recently left BJP to join Congress, does not feature in the list.
