Rajasthan Polls: 56 smaller parties, which might cut into numbers of BJP, Congress

There has been a significant increase in the participation of Political parties in the largest state of India, Rajasthan. Apart from the popular political outfits-BJP,Congress, BSP,SP, there are almost 56 political parties in upcoming elections against the 40 in last elections of 2013.

In 2008, there were 28 such political parties, in 2003 there were 18 registered (Unrecognised) parties while 1998 saw just 14.

There are various reasons for them to contest elections which is why these registered but ‘unrecogised’ parties cames into existence. Ashok Singh of Abhinav Rajasthan Party said that ‘We actually want to make the state and the country truly feels democratic which has not happened till now. And the progress of the country should be felt in every household, that is our mission.

This new party has decided to contest on nearly 100 seats for the upcoming state assembly elections. The new party doesn’t have the freedom to choose its own symbol rather they have to choose from the list of symbols provided by the poll panel.

Another such party, Dalit Kranti Dal who feels has totally disillusioned with their current representation. On Sunday they have announced that they will field its candidates on 150 seats out of 200.

According to the Election Commission, out of 56 registered (unrecognized) parties most of them are in electoral fray this year.
