Tamil film superstar Rajinikanth has minced no words in criticizing Karnataka governor Vajubhai Vala for inviting Bharatiya Janata Party’s CM candidate BS Yeddyurappa to form the government despite his party not winning a majority in the recently-held state assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference after meeting with a group of his women supporters in Chennai, Rajinikanth lauded the Supreme Court for preventing a “mockery of democracy” from taking place and intervening in the Governor’s decision to grant fifteen days to Yeddyurappa for proving majority.

He said the Constitution mandates that a party or alliance that crosses the majority mark should form the government, and so it is only the CongressJD(S) coalition led by HD Kumaraswamy that should have been called up for proving majority.

The political aspirant then shifted focus on the Cauvery river dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, saying the new Chief Minister designate HD Kumaraswamy must do justice and uphold the apex court’s order of sharing water with Tamil Nadu according to recommendations of the proposed Cauvery management board.

He said the new Congress-JD(S) government must implement whatever the Supreme Court has said as it is the state’s duty to follow it. It will be good if the control of dams in Karnataka lies with the Cauvery river authority whose establishment the Supreme Court has ordered.

Responding to Rajinikanth’s statements on Cauvery river water sharing, HD Kumaraswamy has extended an invitation to him for discussing the issue. He said the actor will change his point of view if he comes to Karnataka and sees the condition of farmers there.
