Days after assuming office as Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh will visit Srinagar today to review the security situation in the state. During his visit to the Jammu and Kashmir, Singh will be briefed about the security arrangements in the valley and the counterinsurgency operations conducted in the valley.

‘Raksha Mantri Shri will visit Ladakh region in Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow. During his visit, he will interact with jawans at a forward post and pay his tributes to fallen soldiers at Siachen War Memorial. He will also interact with the jawans at Siachen base camp’, tweeted Official handle of Defence Minister early this morning.

This will be the first visit of Rajnath Singh as a Defence Minister. During his visit, Singh is also slated to visit Siachen Base Camp to review security arrangements. He will also interact with Jawans.

Government Sources as quoted by ANI confirmed that the BJP Stalwart Leader and the new Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be accompanied by Army Chief Bipin Rawat and other officials from Defence Minister.

New Entrant to the South Block, Rajnath Singh had on Saturday took Charge of Defence Minister a day after the portfolio allocated to him. Singh has replaced Nirmala Sitharaman who has now been given the charge of Finance Ministry after Arun Jaitley opted out of Cabinet race.

Minister of State in Defence Ministry Shripad Yesso Naik, apart from the chiefs of all forces -Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa, and Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh – were also present in the South Block Office.

In a meeting with Defence Officials, Rajnath Singh directed the heads of all departments to prepare a presentation of all ongoing projects and programmes and briefed him about all.

‘Assumed charge as the Raksha Mantri today. The MoD officials gave a presentation on the functioning of the Ministry. I have instructed the officers to prepare detailed presentations on all Divisions and set time-bound targets to achieve the desired outcome’, Rajnath Singh tweeted after assuming charge as Defence Minister.

Rajnath Singh took oath as Minister on Thursday along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhawan. He held Home Portfolio in Narendra Modi’s previous government. However, Amit Shah has replaced him this time around.
