The Upper House of the Parliament, Rajya Sabha on Monday adjourned for three hours as a mark of respect for departed BJP member Madan Lal Saini, who breathed its last on Monday. The Rajya Sabha will reassemble at 2 pm for completing the debate on the motion of thanks.

The move to delay the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha was taken earlier in the morning by Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairperson M Venkaiah Naidu after he held a meeting of 15 political parties.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s Rajasthan unit Cihef Madan Lal Saini passed away at the National Capital’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Monday evening. He was diagnosed with the infection in the lungs and was undergoing treatment.

Saini, 75, who was also a Rajya Sabha MP, was appointed as Rajasthan BJP Chief last year. A former MLA who hailed from Sikar district of the State, Saini, held several positions in Bharatiya Kisan Morcha.

PM Narendra Modi, BJP Chief Amit Shah, BJP Working President Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, among others paid tribute to the bigwig of State. Several other leaders across party lines also paid tribute to Rajya Sabha MP who breathed his last on Monday.

The passing away of Shri Madanlal Saini Ji is a major loss for the BJP family. He contributed to strengthening the Party in Rajasthan. He was widely respected for his congenial nature and community service efforts. My thoughts are with his family and supporters. Om Shanti’, said PM Modi in a tweet on Monday.

The Union government is keen that the debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s address in Rajya Sabha be completed by Tuesday so that Prime Minister Narendra Modi can reply to that before he leaves for Japan on Wednesday to attend G20 summit.
