The Upper House of the parliament, Rajya Sabha on Friday was called adjourned till Monday amidst uproar by Opposition on several issues including granting special status to Andhra Pradesh and protection of Cauvery delta farmers.

Though the Centre earlier has ruled out the chances of granting special to Andhra Pradesh. On December 19, The central government while replying to a question by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) member Kanakamedala Ravindrakumar in the Rajya Sabha reasserted that it had already allotted special package to the state.

Soon after laying of papers on the table, the AIADMK and YSR Congress members entered into the Well and started sloganeering for their demands.

The AIADMK parliamentarians were shouting slogans against the construction of dams across Cauvery region while the YSR Congress members seeking special category status for Andhra Pradesh.

Minister of State (MoS) for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel said, ‘The government is ready for discussions on all issues right from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu to Rafale case. The
entire country is looking at us, we should debate on all issues. I request all the political parties to help in the smooth functioning of the House.’

The protesting MPs did not pay any heed to the Minister’s appeal and kept on shouting in the Well. Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu tried to calm down the protesting members but as they refused to relent, he adjourned the House till 1100 hrs on Monday.

Earlier, the Upper House paid tribute to “Chaar Sahibzaade”. It may be noted that the youngest sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh sacrificed their lives.

Vice President and Chairman of Rajya Sabha Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday pulled up parliamentarians for regular adjournments in the House. Sources said that Vice President Naidu on Thursday in Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting expressed displeasure on the ‘Behaviour’ of MPs. He said despite all the demands of opposition parties – Discussion on Rafale Deal, Titli Cyclone and Reserve Bank of India are accepted, the Rajya Sabha was not allowed to function properly.
