Congress Communication Cell In-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala on Friday slammed the Union Budget 2019, presented by Nirmala Sitharaman earlier in the day; calling it as ‘maximum intent, minimum content, maximum catchphrases, and minimum catch points. He also said that Budget failed to address core issues like job creations, education and urban rejuvenation.
In a series of tweets, Surjewala said, ‘An utterly lacklustre, nondescript, uninspiring & directionless Budget 2019. Zero on Economic Revival. Zero on Rural Growth. Zero on Job Creation. Zero on Urban Rejuvenation. Can a mundane jugglery of ‘acronyms’ pass off for vision for a ‘New India’?’.
‘Betrayal’ of India’s Youth! 1. Not a word on Unemployment. 2. Not a word on New Opportunities. 3. Not a word on Public Education. 4. Not a word on High Fee Structure’, Randeep Surjewala said in another tweet.
Further slamming the government for reducing the tax for big corporates, He added, ‘Corporates with an annual turnover of ₹400,00,00,000 (₹400Cr) get an income tax break from 30% to 25%. No relief for honest ‘tax payer’!.
An utterly lacklustre, nondescript, uninspiring & directionless #Budget2019.

Slamming the Union Government for levying one rupee per litre cess on petrol and diesel, Surjewala said, ‘In 5 years, Modi 1.0 increased the excise duty on diesel by 443% and petrol by 211% and ₹ earned Rs 13,00,000 crore by cutting public pockets. Now Modi 2.0 sprinkled ‘salt on the burn’-: The price of petrol and diesel broke the back of the ₹ budget of the middle class, farmers and common man. Is this ‘New India’?’.

He also racked up the Government over GDP projection and called it ‘overrated’. ‘GDP projections are overstated! Budget Estimates project GDP at 8% EcoSurvery2019 projects GDP at 7% Actual GDP last Qtr of FY19 is 6.8% Perception V/S Reality!’, said Randeep Surjewala in another tweet.
He also raised questions on fiscal deficit and said, ‘FM says Fiscal Deficit will be 3.3%. Truth is otherwise. Expenses on Rural Development, Infrastructure, Food Subsidy were not included as part of Fiscal Deficit. Real Fiscal Deficit is estimated at 4.7%. Skulduggery of figures?’.
