Congress Communication Cell in-charge Randeep Surjewala will contest Haryana By-elections from Jind assembly seat, announced the 134-year party on Wednesday. The Polling in the seat is slated for January 28. The seat had fallen vacant after the death of sitting INLD MLA Hari Chand Middha in August last year.

INC insiders claimed that Surjewala refused to contest the by-polls but after later agreed after Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi himself asked to contest the by-election. He had defeated INLD Candidate Om Prakash Chautala in 2005 on the same. Party State Leaders also feel that Surjewala is the party’s safest and strongest candidate in the region, the sources said. The tenure of the 90 assembly seat state is scheduled to end on November 2, 2019.

The voting in the seat is slated for January 28 and the result will be announced on January 31 reads a notification issued by Poll body on December 31st. The filing of nominations began on January 3 and end on January 10.

Surjewala is the seating MLA from Kaithal assembly of the Haryana.

Apart from this BJP has fielded Krishan Middha – the son of late INLD Leader Hari Chand Middha to take up the electoral fight. The INLD is yet not made any announcement vis-a-vis the candidate for the by-election. The Saffron Party had recently registered a clean sweep in the state in Municipal Elections in the state.
