Election Commission of India (ECI) has declared that polling held on May 6 in the 5th phase of Lok Sabha elections at polling station number 116 in Barrackpore parliamentary constituency of West Bengal and polling station number 110 in Arambagh parliamentary constituency as void.

An order issued by the Election Commission said that Repolling for these two polling stations in West Bengal will be held in the 6th phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 12 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Election Commission wrote letter to Chief electoral officer of West Bengal saying that, “after taking all material circumstances into account the Election Commission of India declared that the polling on May 6, 2019, at the polling station number 116 in Barrackpore parliamentary constituency and polling station number 110 in Arambagh parliamentary constituency West Bengal are void. This statement is issued under Sub Section (2) of section 58 of clause (b) under the Representation of People Act 1951.”

Prior to this Election Commission declared repolling in 168 polling stations in Tripura West parliamentary constituency that was held in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 11. EC also declared void the polls held at one polling station in Puducherry in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 18.

Repolling for 168 polling stations in Tripura West parliamentary constituency and 41 polling station in Puducherry parliamentary constituency will also be held in the 6th phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 12.

542 parliamentary constituencies in the country are witnessing elections in 7 phases. The first five phases for Lok Sabha elections were held on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, and May 6. The remaining two phases of elections will be held on May 12 and May 19.
