The reaction made by Sam Pitroda on 1984 anti-Sikh riots urged the Congress party to issue a statement supporting the quest for injustice for 1984 riot victims. Justifying the statement, Congress party released a press statement saying that “any opinion remark made by any individual to the contrary including Sam Pitroda is not the opinion of Congress Party.”

The press statement was issued by the Congress party after Sam Pitroda made alleged remarks on the anti-Sikh riots. The press release said that violence and riots are acceptable and unpardonable in society and Congress has tried to ensure justice for 1984 riot victims. “We continue to support the quest for justice and stern punishment for those found guilty in 1984 riots as also the subsequent acts of violence including the 2002 Gujarat riots,” the press statement added.

Hitting out at Modi the press statement also said that ” For BJP riots are vote garnering exercise in every election. people should see through this Machiavellian game of deception, distraction, and distortion by Shri Narendra Modi.

Congress party clear its stand on the abhorrence of any kind of injustice or violence against any person or a group of people on the basis of their color, region, caste, or religion.

Taking a strike at BJP who has fielded Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur from the Bhopal parliamentary constituency, an accused in the Malegaon blast case, Congress added in the press statement that BJP has fielded a terror crime charged candidate. it also added that the Congress party has shown its moral and political courage to punish the people who were involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said that he does not accept the statement and it is the duty of successive governments to find out how the riots happened and who all were responsible irrespective of how many years have passed.

Sam Pitroda when asked about BJP’s clean that instructions to kill the Sikhs in 1984 had come from the late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, he said that “it happened in 1984, so what?”
