Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has released an order to review the performances of all the state government officers who are above 50 years. All the non-performers and those facing any tarnish should be compulsorily retired. A three-mont notice would be given to them and no reasons would be cited in that notice. Though the normal age for retirement is 60 years, fortunately,  this provision is not implemented in UP.

This exercise of conducting screening of the record of officials above 50 years was started on 31 March 2017 and would be finished by 31 July 2017. UP’s new Chief Secretary, Rajiv Kumar, reportedly said that this is his first big move to clean the odious bureaucracy of UP.

PM Modi has been carrying such similar moves for the Centre’s officials. PM Modi is very serious in taking actions against non-performers. In past few months, 30 officers of Group A and 99 officers of Group B were sent on compulsory retirement. Currently, there are 240000 officials of Group A and 42251 official of Group B are under scanning.

Hopefully, the same exercise would help UP to tousle its bureaucracy which is facing an outbreak of transfers.
