Sasikala, the close aide of former Chief Minister, late Jayalalithaa has been granted an emergency parole for days to visit her ailing husband. Sasikala has been in jail since February after the Supreme Court upheld her conviction by a special court in a disproportionate assets case. She is serving a four-year sentence at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara jail.

The jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala had applied for a 15-day parole on 2 Oct, asking to grant her temporary leave so that she could go and visit her ailing husband. M Natarajan, 74, is admitted to the liver intensive care unit of a private hospital since last month, after the failure of kidney and liver.

Two days back the Sasikala’s plea was rejected on the technical grounds, saying that the required paperwork was not done properly. Though she was advised that she could apply for the parole once again with proper documentation, indicating the legal cell was considering her application.

As per the latest updates, Sasikala has been granted a 5-day emergency parole to visit her ailing husband. The sidelined AIADMK leader and Sasikala’s nephew TT Dhinakaran was present during the parole hearing.

Sasikala’s advocate said that since she had not requested for any extra security in the parole application no such arrangements are made. In his statement to the press, Sasikala’s advocate informed that the jail authorities had received an e-mail from the Chennai Police Commissioner agreeing to her parole, though it had some conditions with it. He further said that if Sasikala agrees to all the conditions and signs the document, she will be out in half an hour.

According to the sources, Sasikala will be staying at her sister-in-law Ilavarasi’s daughter’s house at 181 Habibullah Road in Chennai’s T Nagar. During her 5-day parole, she is not allowed to meet any ministers.
