As the time nears for the incumbent President Pranab Mukherjee to vacate his office on 24 July, he feels satisfied with the efforts he put in the past five years to restore the heritage buildings at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

While Inaugurating restored heritage buildings at the President’s Estate he said, “… I am going with full satisfaction that we have made our contribution to restore this building (President’s Body Guard) which is closely associated with contemporary history.”

Talking about the historical importance if the place. Mukherjee said that, the decision of India participating in the second world war was declared from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, also the deceleration of Republic of India was also done from here.

Mukherjee’s secretary Omita Paul also highlighted the restoration done at the place, saying that the process began two years back and the place is now a smart city with all the modern amenities present. She also added that the main aim for the restoration was to create a harmonious and happy family in the premises. Almost 55 buildings were restored in the area.

The President’s Bodyguard (PBG) is the oldest and finest regiment of the British-era which was constructed 250 years ago. It is regiment of the Indian army, whose primary work is to escort and protect the President.
