The post of the Governor of Bihar had fallen vacant in June when Ram Nath Kovind had resigned after being nominated as the NDA candidate for the presidential election. Since then West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi has been holding additional charge of Bihar

Former MP and BJP national vice-president Satya Pal Malik (71) on Wednesday took oath as the new governor of Bihar. Following the oath taking ceremony, Satya Pal said that he understood the responsibility given to him and will fulfil it wholeheartedly.

President Ramnath Kovind had appointed new governors for five states last week and Bihar was one of them. Among the others to get new governors were,  Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Meghalaya. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had expressed happiness at the appointment of Satya Pa and the new governor and had welcomed the decision.

As per the educational qualifications of the new governor of Bihar, Satya Pal completed his B.Sc and LLB from Meerut University and holds a Diploma in Parliamentary Affairs from the Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies run by Parliament of India.

According to his political graph, Satya Pal was an MLA in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly between 1974 and 1977. He was also a Lok Sabha MP from 1989-1990 and was elected as the Rajya Sabha member for two consecutive terms. Satya Pal also previously served as the MoS for Parliamentary Affairs, and Tourism.
