Jayalalithaa Sasikala

Former Tamilnadu CM Jayalalithaa‘s death has abated the criminal cases against her, however, that did not stop the supreme court from ordering to recover the fine which was originally imposed on her by the trial court in Bengaluru. The verdict, which came out yesterday, had a clear mention of seizure of properties and other assets belonging to Jayalalithaa in order to recover INR 100 Crore, which was the fine imposed on her by the court back in 2014.

Sasikala, V N Sudhakaran and J Elavarasi were also asked to pay a fine of INR 10 Crores separately along with 4 years of imprisonment.

Supreme Court’s bench consisting of Justices Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Amitava Roy, which gave the decision yesterday further stated that the properties attached to the six companies which are involved in the case and owned by the accused people, should be forfeited as per the decision of the trail court.

The bench further said that the 3 other accused, Sasikala, VN Sudhakaran and J Elavarasi have claimed to have independent sources of income, however, there are enough proofs of conspiracies of them to hold Jayalalithaa’s assets. The court refused to give any privilege to the accused and asked them to surrender immediately along with depositing the amount of INR 10 crores respectively.
