Ousted Janata Dal (United) leader Sharad Yadav, along with Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) chief Babulal Marandi and his party MLA Pradeep Yadav, met convicted Rashtriya Janata Dal head Lalu Prasad at Ranchi jail yesterday.

Yadav told local media persons that he had met Lalu to “inquire about his wellbeing and discuss national politics.” He said he had come to meet opposition leaders and establish a united anti-BJP front in preparation of 2019 general elections.

When asked if he was discussing RJD’s support for his Rajya Sabha candidacy, he rubbished that claim and said he has already appealed against his suspension from JDU in Delhi High Court. Yadav’s membership in Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s ruling JDU was cancelled after he had repeatedly slammed his party’s association with BJP in public.

Yadav has applied to the Election Commission for registration of his own party after he was removed from JDU last year. He was disqualified from Rajya Sabha membership along with Ali Anwar in December after JDU petitioned to Upper House chairman Venkaiah Naidu seeking their removal.
