Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor has again landed himself amid controversies by praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PM Narendra Modi had called on the nation for learning one new word a day from an Indian language other than one’s own. Shashi Tharoor came out in support of Modi’s new initiative and tweeted a message on the same line. The leader can be seen welcoming the Prime Minister’s decision to depart from Hindi language and focusing on other Indian languages too.

Earlier over his remarks over Modi’s praise, he was served a notice by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Mullappally Ramachandran to explain himself. Shashi Tharoor had said that Modi should be praised whenever he says or does the right thing.

To this, he was served notice by the state’s Congress unit. After his response, the Kerala Congress found it satisfactory and did not take any actions against the leader. The letter of reply read, “As you know, I have argued for six years now that Narendra Modi should be praised whenever he says or does the right thing, which would add credibility to our criticisms whenever he errs. I welcome others in opposition coming around to a view for which I was excoriated at the time.” He further explained the fact that PM might be doing little things worth praising, that’s why he has been able to raise his vote share from 31 percent (in 2014) to 37 percent in 2019 Lok Sabha assembly elections.

After Kerala Chief Congress found the leader’s response satisfactory, Shashi Tharoor expressed relief and deep gratitude. He expressed happiness over the fact that his response was taken in the “right spirit” and unnecessary controversy was finally put to and end.
